Brexit – will I have problems with my shipment to the UK?
In our third Brexit news series we will again show you what new regulations you will have to observe when shipping to the UK and what the individual shipping providers do in this situation.

The United Kingdom left the European Union on 31 January 2020 and is now officially a third country to the EU.
What all stakeholders should bear in mind
The UK’s exit on January 1, 2021, also had an impact on logistics flows. However, the measures that companies and shippers take have not changed since then and are still valid now.
- Companies shipping between the European Union and the UK will face additional administrative, customs and tax related issues and must prepare themselves carefully. Amongst others this includes:
- Shippers will need to register for an “Economic Operators Registration and Identification number” (EORI) to ensure their shipments will be cleared by the customs. gov.uk/eori
- Traders need to classify their products with customs tariff number (HS-Codes)
- Ensure to be ready to provide the complete required data to the EU customs authorities for exports to the UK.

- Customs clearance processes for shipments between the EU and the UK are likely to lead to higher operating costs for logistics operators. Some of them already mentioned that they will (in different ways) pass over the costs to the shippers.
