Customs for Austrian importers

Basically, the requirements for importers to import goods from China to Austria are quite straightforward. Especially if you book via a multi-carrier shipping platform. Nevertheless, as an importer (ordering party of a consignment) you should keep an eye on the fact that the shipping documents are available at the exporter (consignor).

The three most important customs-relevant terms briefly explained:

What is a customs tariff number (commodity tariff number)?

The customs tariff number, often also called the commodity tariff number, is required to determine the import regulations for the goods in question. This numerical code can be used to determine the import duties and, if applicable, the export duties. It is required for all imports from outside the EU. You may obtain the customs tariff number from the Austrian customs authorities..

What are the customs duties for imports from China?

You can obtain information on the customs rate, i.e. the amount of your customs duties (EUSt) directly from customs. If you have commissioned a customs broker or have a customs representative in your company, he or she is in contact with customs and can ask customs for the amount at any time. The amount of customs duty varies depending on the value of the goods and the type of goods.

Supplier connection – More transparency and control for your China imports

Do you find it difficult to control the costs of your China imports due to the large number of different suppliers? No problem, with your LetMeShip account on the shipping platform you have the option of inviting all your suppliers, both nationally and internationally. Your suppliers’ account is then directly linked to your account. This means that your suppliers book at your conditions, at which you ship with us. This way you always get the best price and avoid possible price negotiations – especially for import shipments from China.

You define yourself whether your supplier may only ship to specified addresses and which shipping service providers and services are available. The invoicing is done via your account so that you always have an overview of your costs, even if your supplier is responsible for the booking. All shipments booked by a supplier based abroad are displayed in the system as import shipments.
